Another great week for Fan Frenzy Teams with a week 10 record of 8-3.
We start week 10 with the Georgia Southern win over App State 24-21 ending an undefeated season for the Appalachian State football team. A year after defeating the Mountaineers 34-14 in Statesboro, Ga., the Eagles handed No. 20 Appalachian State its first loss of the 2019 season, snapping a 13-game winning streak dating back to last season. The loss also knocked them out of the NCAA Top 25 rankings, which were unveiled on Sunday.
Next was our highlighted matchup of the week, BYU at Utah State. After spending a couple of years in Cache Valley, the Old Wagon Wheel, the symbol of supremacy in the BYU-Utah State rivalry, is returning to Provo. The Cougars, powered by redshirt freshmen quarterbacks Jaren Hall and Baylor Romney, recorded season-highs in points and total offense in a 42-14 thumping of Utah State Saturday night before a crowd of 25,472 at Maverik Stadium.
The chatter coming into the game was how great and amazing the Kansas Jayhawks offense has been the past two weeks and that the Kansas State Wildcats defense would be lucky to keep the game close. Kansas was in for a big surprise when Kansas State manage to hold them to just 10 points and the sole touchdown for the Jayhawks came in the fourth quarter once the game was completely out of reach. The Wildcats ended up with a dominant victory over Kansas 38-10.
The Utah Utes were 1-12 all-time against Washington entering the game. After Saturday’s 33-28 win at Washington, Utah (8-1, 5-1) is in prime position to earn a second consecutive berth in the conference championship game.
Clemson continues rolling over their opponents and their latest victim was the Wofford Terriers. The game was pretty much over by half time with a 42-0 lead. The Tigers finished with yet another high scoring game 59-14 for their 9th consecutive win.
Another unbeaten record ended last Saturday with the Memphis Tigers handing down SMU first loss of the season with a 54-48 victory. Memphis did the little things on defense to propel them to victory over the Mustangs.
The Boise State Broncos fueled by RB George Holani's four touchdown runs, powered back from 14 points down to beat San Jose State 52-42.
The NC State Wolfpacks lost against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 44-10. NC State dug itself into a 21-0 first-quarter hole, and while I'd like to say there was a chance of a comeback, the game was over at that point. With the loss the Wolfpacks are now down to .500 (4-4) in the standings.
Next Saturday the key games to follow for week 11 are: Vanderbilt at Florida, Kansas State at Texas, Iowa at Wisconsin, Missouri at Georgia, Clemson at NC State, Iowa State at Oklahoma, Wyoming at Boise State.
