At the top of the power rankings
The NCAA released their top 35 schools in their latest power rankings and seven Fan Frenzy teams made the list.
No. 1 overall ranking belongs to – The Kansas Jayhawks. The Jayhawks went 2-0 over the last week against some of the lighter competition they've faced this season. In their first contest of the week, the Jayhawks jumped out to an 11-0 lead against Milwaukee and led 40-12 less than 12 minutes into the contest. KU cruised through the rest of the outing and won by 27. Against UMKC, KU's blowout followed a different trajectory. The Jayhawks actually trailed the Roos 13-10 just after the 12-minute mark in the first half, but KU would go on to take a 19-point lead into the half and stretch that advantage out to 40-plus in the second half to win the game. Their next matchup will be against No. 21 ranked Villanova next Saturday.
The Oregon Ducks also made the list at No. 4 overall. The Ducks have played a brutal schedule exceptionally well. The Ducks claimed their third victory against a Top 15 opponent this weekend at Michigan when they held on 71-70. The win was a historic one for the program. It was the first time in over four decades that the Ducks won a road game at a Top 5 opponent, and the first time in program history it came during a non-conference game.
Our third team makes the list at No. 7, the Dayton Flyers are rolling behind their star player Obi Toppin whom is averaging 21.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The fourth team is the Memphis Tigers. The Tigers landed No. 11 in the list and continue to show that not having James Wiseman is not going to be a problem to beat teams like they did to Tennessee.
NC State also made the list at No. 25 overall. The Wolfpack got a buzzer-beating shot by Markell Johnson to knock off UNC Greensboro. Illinois was ranked 28, after being previously unranked. The Illini finally broke through with a stellar performance at home against Michigan. The play of Kofi Cockburn was dominating and we can expect the Illini’s to continue to surge in the rankings.
Making the list at No. 31, the Iowa Hawkeyes knocked off rival Iowa State and Luka Garza was our national player of the week with his impressive week. Garza scored 21 points and grabbed 11 boards at Iowa State. Earlier in the week, Garza scored 21 and 10 in a home win over Minnesota.
