Fan Frenzy Bowl game recap of the week
After defeating Ohio State 29-23 in the Fiesta Bowl, the Clemson Tigers are getting ready to defend their CFP championship title against LSU.
The Buccaneers held the Tigers scoreless in the first half but with 2:45 left till halftime, Travis Etienne made an impressive run to the end zone to put Clemson on the board. In the next offensive possession for Clemson, quarterback Trevor Lawrence used a brilliant leg screen to run straight through the defense for a 67-yard, improbable touchdown at the end of the half. Making what was a 0-16 Ohio State second quarter lead into a 14 -16 game at the end of the half.
In the second half Clemson got the first touchdown to take a 21-16 lead with a 53-yard rush from Etienne. In the next possession, the Buccaneers managed to get a touchdown with what seemed like a fumble, but after being reviewed it was declared an incomplete pass and the touchdown was removed. The Buccaneers got the ball in offense and made a long pass that was intercepted by the Tigers defense. Then Ohio State mounted a great defensive effort to force the ball back to them. After the Tigers forced Ohio State into a fourth and two situation, the Buccaneers took the risk to run it and got a touchdown to put the score at 21-23.
The fourth quarter began with a relentless defensive effort from both teams, keeping each other scoreless for nearly 9 minutes. Then quarterback Trevor Lawrence took over, throwing 4 straight first down passes leading to a touchdown in less than a one and a half minutes to put the score at 27-23. Clemson then took a timeout to attempt their first two-point conversion in 26 games. Lawrence then took the ball, tricking the defense by making them think he was going to run it, leaving receiver Higgins wide open and a perfect pass gave them a 29-23 lead. The Buccaneers begin to mount a comeback. Ohio State managed to get a first down in every possession until the 30-yard line where they get a second down. Ohio State gets a time out and runs a play for the touchdown but it gets intercepted in the end zone by the Tigers to end the game. With this victory Clemson continues to be undefeated with their last loss going back to 2017. The Tigers are getting ready to face LSU for the CFP Championship next.
